Some university exercises

Friday,26th April 2007

Here are some exercises about my university exam,in fact in the next exams will be based on this example:

Letter:

Hi Carol,I have been in your office since 10:10 am.When I arrived,Bob told me you had gone to the bank.I have been waiting for you for an hour, but now it is too late for me.I'm going to play tennis with Dan from 12 pm onwards. So,I've decided to give you a message.I've got two tickets for "Lost in Space"at the Odeon cinema tonight. The film starts at 7:45pm.If you like this idea, phone me at 4:30pm.Do not phone me before 4pm because I will be studying history in the public library. Bob is a very kind person. He is translating this message for me.

Some sentences:

1)I think that we will be finished at 7pm.
2)Would you like to go to the theatre tomorrow evening?
3)Please,phone me as soon as you get to the airport.
4)Shall I help you taking your suitcase? no,thank you,it isn't heavy.
5)Tomorrow at this time we will be flying to Lisbon,I'm very eager about this!
6)Will you have left for the time I get home? I hope no!
7)Coffee,tea or beer? I don't know..I will have a tea,please!
8)Hurry up! the play is starting.
9)Do not phone me at 10pm,at that time I will be watching the football match.
10)What are you giving to Mary for her birthday? I will tell you when I have bought it,it is a surprise!!
11)How will you do... in three years, for example?
12)The coach should leaves at midday,I hope it will not be late as yesterday.

Is very important for me practice about these kind of exercise.
I have been failed three times for this exam..and now it is becoming like an obsession for me!!

Hi Anna Lisa,

Your university exercises are excellent. You will NOT fail again! Your letter is perfect and nearly every sentence is perfect. The only alterations are:
6) Will you have left BY the time I get home? I hope NOT
12) The coach should leave (no 's')

In 5) the word 'eager' is not wrong, but an English person would probably use the word 'excited'.

Well done! You will pass all your exams, so you can relax. You have worked hard with your English and have learned a great deal.

Speak to you soon,
Terri
